The festival in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania resumes an hour after the chaos erupted, but six people are left injured by the faux rumor with one suffering a broken leg.

AceShowbiz - One young music fan suffered a broken leg during a stampede at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, June 01.

21 Savage was performing at the Fairmount Park event when reports of a gunman among the crowd led to chaos among the festivalgoers.

The unnamed fan was one of six people injured in the chaos.

Reports suggest the gun rumours spread as a fight broke out near the stage, but a Live Nation spokesperson has told ABC 6 Philadelphia that a "medical issue" sparked the stampede.

Police arrived to investigate and the festival resumed an hour later.

Festival bosses and members of The Roots, who put the event together every year, have yet to comment on the incident.

Roots Picnic is the latest festival marred by a false active shooter scare - rap fans at Miami's Rolling Loud were injured in May after a "commotion" prompted fans to dash for the exits, and Madison Beer halted her set at the Bottlerock Napa event in California last week (May 26) after reports of a gunman in the crowd reached the stage.

The man behind the scare was arrested by Napa City Police Department officials last week.
