The studio also moves X-Men spin-off 'The New Mutants' starring Maisie Williams again and sets a date for Steven Spielberg's new adaptation of 'West Side Story'.

AceShowbiz - Disney has made some adjustment to its slate following the acquisition of 20th Century Fox. The announcement brings good news for "Star Wars" fans, who will get more installments of the franchise after "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" as the studio has added three new "Star Wars" entries.

The currently untitled movies, which will hit theaters after the last installment of the Skywalker saga, are all scheduled to open around Christmas. The first of the three new entries will be released on December 16, 2022, followed by two other movies on December 20, 2024 and December 18, 2026.

Meanwhile, moviegoers have to wait a little longer for the long-awaited "Avatar" sequel as all four movies are moved a year later than their previous release dates. "Avatar 2" will bow on December 17, 2021 instead of on December 18, 2020. "Avatar 3" will open on December 22, 2023 as opposed to December 17, 2021, "Avatar 4" is moved from December 20, 2024 to December 19, 2025 and "Avatar 5" will launch December 17, 2027.

Seeing a worse future, "Gambit" appears to be dead as it has been dropped from Disney's current schedule. The project, which would focus on the Marvel Comics character which was once featured in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", had Channing Tatum on board to star and was previously slated for March 13, 2020 release despite showing almost no progress so far.

Another X-Men spin-off movie, "The New Mutants" starring Maisie Williams, is once again moved after going through several delays. It's now slated to arrive on April 3, 2020, a few months earlier than its previous date of August 2, 2020.

Also in 2020, Steven Spielberg's new "West Side Story" adaptation will bow on December 18, while "Cruella", a live-action "101 Dalmatians" spin-off, will launch on December 23. Brad Pitt's "Ad Astra" is slightly pushed back from May 24, 2019 to September 20, 2019. "Indiana Jones V", which Spielberg hopefully will be working on after he finishes "West Side Story", is still on track for its July 21, 2021 release.

Cathleen Taff, President, Theatrical Distribution, Franchise Management, and Business & Audience Insights, The Walt Disney Studios, says in a statement announcing the new schedule, "We're excited to put in place a robust and diverse slate that lays the foundation of our long-term strategy, bringing together a breadth of films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Fox, Fox Searchlight and Blue Sky Studios to create an extraordinary collection of cinematic experiences for audiences around the world. With a strong summer already in place, we are eager to carry that momentum forward over the coming years thanks to a creative wellspring of bold and imaginative stories coming from our world-class studios - including several new chapters of two revered franchises, 'Avatar' and 'Star Wars'."
