A group of children unknowingly bring to life scary monsters from the book of Sarah Bellows, a girl with horrible secrets in the small town of Mill Valley.

AceShowbiz - "This summer will be scary," so it's declared in the new teaser trailer of "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" which has just been released for viewing pleasure. From the dark imaginations of Academy Award winner Guillermo del Toro, the movie is an adaptation of the iconic book series of the same name by Alvin Schwartz.

It opens with the discovery of Sarah Bellows' book at an abandoned house by a group of children. "This town has told stories about me... Horrible stories," says a female narrator, probably of Sarah, "But they don't realize I have scary stories of my own."

Unbeknown to them, they have unleashed supernatural entities from the book that now haunt them. "Sarah Bellows' book... The stories write themselves and it all comes alive," says a sheriff, played by Gil Bellows.

Now, there's no escape for them, as Stella Nicholls (Zoe Margaret Colletti) says, "You don't read the book. The book reads you." In another scene, she tearfully speaks to her father over the phone about her fear.

Chuck Steinberg (Austin Zajur) tells her, "We're next... We're next," as another girl is discovering a horrifying "red spot" with something moving underneath on her face.

The official description of the movie reads, "It's 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind...but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time-stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah's terrifying home."

Andre Ovredal serves behind the lens with the script provided by by Dan and Kevin Hageman based on story by del Toro, Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan. Michael Garza, Austin Abrams, Gabriel Rush, Natalie Ganzhorn and Dean Norris are also among the cast of the horror flick, which is due out in the U.S. on August 9.
