All the heads are stuffed on mantels with gold plates reading, 'Your Favorite Rapper,' 'This Could Be You' and 'Ask for a Feature?'

AceShowbiz - It's been a month since J. Cole released his first single of the year, "Middle Child". Now, the hip-hop mogul has treated fans to its accompanying music video that was released on Monday, February 25. Cole teams up with director Mez and producer Daniel Yarp to deliver the visuals for the song.

The visuals starts off with the Dreamville boss rhyming on a red carpet, with people singing his praises in the back. It quickly takes a darker turn when the scene changes to a morgue, where dead bodies lying under sheets with dirty shoes. Not minding the gruesome scene behind him, Cole continues to rap before driving a Bentley truck through the mud to get to his log cabin.

Things get even weirder at the cabin. The "Wet Dreamz" spitter takes a seat inside the building as he displays the heads of his rap rivals like they're trophies. All the heads were stuffed on mantels with gold plates reading, "You Favorite Rapper," "This Could Be You" and "Ask for a Feature?" There's also a scene of a white woman buying a black woman's face at the supermarket.

All in all, Cole seems to be telling the viewers the current state of rap, race and capitalism.

"Middle Child" was released on January 23 and peaked at No. 4 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. The song additionally reached No. 2 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. He performed the song during his headlining set at the 2019 NBA All-Star Game earlier this month.

In addition to releasing the music video for "Middle Child", Cole announced that he's eyeing an April release for Dreamville's "Revenge of the Dreamers III" compilation album. "ROTD 3 is being finished right now," he said through a YouTube chat. "Post production s**t, tracking out songs, sequencing, editing, then we gotta mix, we shooting for April."
