Ahead of 2019 Oscars, Glenn Close nails Best Actress prize for her role in 'The Wife' while 'Can You Ever Forgive Me?' secures two wins at the 34th Film Independent Spirit Awards.

AceShowbiz - Director Barry Jenkins' "If Beale Street Could Talk" was the big winner at the 34th Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday, February 23.

The filmmaker's adaptation of James Baldwin's tale landed Best Feature, Best Director, and Best Supporting Female for Regina King at the traditional Oscars eve ceremony.

King is now a lock to take home gold at the Academy Awards on Sunday, bar a total surprise.

Meanwhile, Boots Riley scored the Best First Feature for his comedy Sorry To Bother You and Glenn Close more or less cemented her first Oscar by picking up the Female Lead honour for her role in The Wife.

There were also acting wins for Ethan Hawke, who took home the Best Male Lead prize for his role in "First Reformed", and Richard E. Grant, who landed Best Supporting Male for "Can You Ever Forgive Me?"
