The 'Avengers: Infinity War' co-director cryptically hints that Evans is not retiring from Captain America role yet despite his emotional farewell after wrapping up the filming of 'Avengers 4'.

AceShowbiz - Chris Evans' days as Captain America may not be over just yet. Contrary to the actor's Twitter post at the end of "Avengers 4" filming, co-director Joe Russo hinted that the Steve Rogers depicter is not retiring from playing the role.

In a new interview with The Associated Press, Russo addressed Evans' last day on the set, "I think it was more emotional for him than us. Only because he's not done yet." He coyly added, "And I don't want (to) explain what that means but the audience will soon understand what I'm talking about."

Russo, who recently opened a new restaurant, Simone, in downtown Los Angeles, also talked about what to expect from the fourth "Avengers" movie. "We killed half the Marvel universe so for us it really is about, in what ways can we surprise the audience and tell a very challenging story," he teased.

While the movie is still in post-production, Russo confirmed his previous statement that "Avengers 4" would become Marvel Studios' longest movie ever. "We're about halfway through the editorial process and it's standing about three hours right now. It's a very complicated movie," he shared. "It has a lot of characters in it and you know we are putting in the work, so we'll see where it ends up, but it definitely has a lot of story in it."

As for the future of MCU, Russo said he has no direct knowledge of the master plan, but with Disney finalizing a deal to acquire parts of 20th Century Fox, he said, "My guess would be that there be a little bit of time to integrate some of the other characters and take their time doing that."

Evans previously shared an emotional farewell to his character at the end of filming "Avengers 4". He tweeted in October, "Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful."

Besides Evans, the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman and Paul Rudd are expected to return for the upcoming movie. Co-directed by Anthony Russo, it is set to bow in U.S. theaters on May 3, 2019.
