In an emotional video posted on Instagram, Sly announces that he's done playing the character following his performance in the 'Creed' sequel.

AceShowbiz - Sylvester Stallone is signing off from boxing ring after "Creed II". In an emotional Instagram post shared on Wednesday, November 28, the actor announces that his performance in the Steven Caple Jr.-directed sports drama marks the last time he's playing Rocky Balboa.

He shared a video which was apparently taken on the set on the final day of production with star Michael B. Jordan and the helmer, Caple Jr. He said in the video, "This is probably my last rodeo because what I thought happened, it has happened, I never expected. I thought Rocky was over in 2006, and I was very happy with that."

"Then all of a sudden this young man presented himself, and the whole story changed," he continued. "It went on to a new generation, new problems, new adventures. And I couldn't be happier because as I step back, as my story has been told, there's a whole new world that's gonna be opening up for the audience, for this generation. Thank you very much, Stephen. And definitely you, Michael, for making that possible. Now you have to carry the mantle."

In the caption, he confirmed his decision to retire Rocky as saying, "I just want to thank everyone around the whole wide World for taking the Rocky family into their hearts for over 40 years. It's been my Ultimate privilege to have been able to create and play this meaningful character. Though it breaks my heart, Sadly all things must pass... and end. I love you Kind and generous people , and The most wonderful thing of all , is that ROCKY will never die because he lives on in you ...."

Stallone first played the fictional boxer in 1975's "Rocky", which became a smash hit and won three Oscars, including Best Picture. He reprised the role in five "Rocky" sequels and returned for 2015's "Creed" and "Creed II".

The "Creed" sequel has hit theaters since November 14 and set record for the best Thanksgiving opening for a live-action film with its five-day revenue of $55.8 million.
