AceShowbiz - The six remaining contestants took the stage of "Dancing with the Stars" for the semi-finals of its season 27 which aired on Monday, November 12. The episode of the long-running dance show featured a wild double elimination.
The episode saw each contestant performing two dances. One was a brand new routine in a previously unlearned style. Meanwhile, the other one was a Judges' Choice in which the dancers taking on a new routine in a style they performed earlier in the season. Find out who were the eliminated pair at the end of the episode.
Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess hit the stage first, performing a Salsa to "GDFR" by Flo Rida. Of the routine, judge Len Goodman said, "You put the boy in flamboyant. Okay, not the most conventional of salsas." Bruno Tonioli added that he looked like "someone who gate-crashed a Victoria’s Secret show," though he doubted that it was a Salsa. He earned a 21 out of 30.
Up next were Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten. The pair opted for a Waltz to "Water" by Bishop Briggs. Bruno praised her "exquisite elegance and poise," adding that her turns were "brilliantly beautiful." Carrie Ann Inaba agreed, saying that they were "spot-on" turns. She got a 28.
Later, it was Joe Amabile's turn to take the stage alongside Jenna Johnson to dance a Contemporary to "This Year's Love" by David Gray. Len said, "You didn't do much, Joe, but you didn't do much very well … I enjoyed it." The judges gave him a 22.
Meanwhile, Juan Pablo Di Pace and Cheryl Burke wowed the judges with an Argentine Tango to "Libertango" from "Forever Tango". "It was fantastic. It was a mix of care and flair … I will always remember that Argentine tango," Len exclaimed while giving the pair a standing ovation. Similarly, Bruno raved, "I can't catch my breath. It really was extraordinary … The pure essence of an authentic Argentine tango." It was so stunning that the jugdes gave them a perfect score of 30.
Evanna Lynch and Keo Motsepe hit the stage to perform a Contemporary to "Stand Up for Something" by Andra Day. Bruno loved it, dubbing it "powerful, strong, heartfelt, totally in the moment. The storytelling was flawless. Your dancing was brilliant." Carrie Ann also said that it was like "essence of life … fierce and loud." Evanna also earned a perfect score.
Performing next were Milo Manheim and Witney Carson. The two danced an Argentine Tango to "Pray for Me" by The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar. Bruno praised him for the tough sequences of lifts, adding that the routine was "stylish, sharp and strong." The actor got a 27.
For the Judges' Choice, Bobby and Sharna opted for a Jive to "Gimme Some Lovin' " by Spencer Davis Group with Len as the mentor. Bruno noted that his jumping looked like a "golden cricket gone berserk." He got a 24.
Alexis and Alan, mentored by Bruno, took the stage with a Jive to "Yes" by Merry Clayton. Bruno thought it was "cleanly brilliant," while Carrie Ann said "everything was perfect" in the performance. Alexis earned a perfect score.
Mentored by Carrie Ann, Joe and Jenna did a Quickstep to "Check It Out" by Oh the Larceny. Carrie Ann applauded Joe for his big difference. "Your shoulders were open, your frame was good … You have shown up and put it on the dance floor," she praised Joe. The performance got him a 24.
Up next were Juan Pablo and Cheryl, who were mentored by Bruno. The pair dance a Salsa to "Tu Sonrisa" by Elvis Crespo. Bruno dubbed it "sensational," while Carrie Ann called the hot performance "Fifty Shades of Salsa." Again, the pair received a perfect score.
Evanna and Keo, mentored by Len, were challenged to dance a Foxtrot to "Rewrite the Stars" from "The Greatest Showman". Carrie Ann admitted she was "overwhelmed with emotion … You were dancing with so much momentum, so much freedom, so much confidence." This time, Evanna earned a 28.
The last performance that night was a Cha Cha from Milo and Witney, who were mentored by Len. Carrie Ann loved that Milo had "more confidence" in his upper body. Len, meanwhile, said that it was "full of youthful exuberance … There's a joy about your dancing … There was a little too much flexion in your legs … I hope I'm doing to be watching you next week." They got a 28.
It was time to announce the results. Juan Pablo earned a double perfect score that night but it didn't keep him save from elimination. Also being sent home that night was Joe.
