AceShowbiz - Warner Bros. Pictures has released a new trailer for its adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book". Retitled "Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle" from simply "Mowgli", it shows more of the titular character's adventure in the woods.
The boy is trained by Baloo (Andy Serkis), a bear, to jump over a tree. The young boy is also seen asking Bagheera (Christian Bale), a panther, why he looks different. "You are special, little brother," the panther wisely answers.
Halfway through the video, Mowgli joins the civilization he belongs to, according to Bagheera. But Mowgli can't ignore his old friends and returns to the forest, when their habitat is threatened to be destroyed.
According to the official synopsis, the movie tells the story in which a boy torn between two worlds accepts his destiny and becomes a legend. Mowgli has never truly belonged in either the wilds of the jungle or the civilized world of man. Now he must navigate the inherent dangers of each on a journey to discover where he truly belongs.
Serkis serves as director in addition to lending his voice to Baloo. Rohan Chand plays the titular character, with Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett, Naomie Harris, Peter Mullan, Jack Reynor, Eddie Marsan and Tom Hollander joining the voice cast. Matthew Rhys and Freida Pinto, meanwhile, play human characters in the adventure movie.
Serkis previously said his take on Rudyard Kipling's classic is similar to "Apes" movie. "It's closer tonally to the 'Apes' movies than it is to the [1967 animated film]," he claimed. "It depends on what your gauge is. ... But I would say it's safe to take 9- or 10-year-olds. I wouldn't take 5- or 6-year-olds - it's very scary."
Serkis also said the film's tone is actually closer to the tone of Kipling's original written material. "That was the intention from the get-go," he added. "We wanted to make something that felt authentically turn-of-the-century in colonial India, where Mowgli grows up as a feral child - an orphan who's brought up with wolves, learns their ways and customs, and then realizes at this complicated teenage point in his life that he isn't one of them."
"Mowgli", which was sold to Netflix in July, will have limited theatrical release beginning on November 29 before launching globally on the streaming service on December 7.
