'Halloween' Spooks Out Rivals at Box Office, Crosses $100M After a Week

The latest installment of the slasher film franchise remains on top of the domestic chart as newcomers 'Hunter Killer' and 'Johnny English Strikes Again' prove too weak to challenge.

AceShowbiz - "Halloween (2018)" is unchallenged at box office. The Jamie Lee Curtis-starring movie, which serves as a direct sequel to the original 1978 film of the same name, maintains its reign after debuting at No. 1 last weekend.

The David Gordon Green-directed flick added an estimated $32 million from ticket sales on its second weekend, bringing its current domestic total to $126.7 million. It crossed the $100 million mark last Friday, a week after it was released on October 19.

"Halloween" also led the competition internationally, beating "Venom (2018)" to top the chart with additional $25.6 million from 47 foreign markets. It brings its offshore total to $45.6 million and its worldwide total to $172.3 million so far.

At No. 2 on the domestic chart is another holdover, "A Star Is Born", with approximately $14 million. With a slight drop of 25.8% in its fourth week, it is an impressive and strong performance for the critically-acclaimed music drama starring Lady GaGa and Bradley Cooper.

"Venom" also holds on to its third place with an estimated $10.8 million. The Spider-Man spin-off starring Tom Hardy also added $17.3 million at the offshore box office for a current global total of $508.4 million.

"Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween" is another holdover at the chart at No. 4, adding an estimated $7.5 million. Meanwhile, newcomer "Hunter Killer" starring Gerard Butler opened at No. 5 with approximately $6.6 million, in line with analysts' predictions of $6 million to $9 million.

Another new release, "Johnny English Strikes Again", failed to deliver a strong performance, landing at No. 12 with just $1.6 million. Meanwhile, "Suspiria" remake debuted at No. 22 with $179,806 after opening in two locations. With a per-screen average of $89,903, it's the best opening average since Luca Guadagnino's "Call Me by Your Name" ($103,233) in November of last year. Guadagnino also directed the new horror film starring Dakota Johnson and Tilda Swinton.
