The Ryan Staake-directed music video also features the songstress and Troye Sivan recreating 'Titanic' and 'Matrix' iconic scenes.

AceShowbiz - Charli XCX takes her fans down the memory line with the music video for her Troye Sivan-assisted song "1999". Making its way out on Thursday, October 11, the almost three-and-a-half-minute visuals features a lot of references of all the cool things from 90s era.
Directed by Ryan Staake, it opens with Charli waiting for her Uber driver to pick her up. The song only starts after the British songstress puts on her headphone. As the camera zooms in to her text messages, the scene changes to show her cosplaying Steve Jobs when he first debuted iMac. From there, viewers are treated to scenes of the duo channeling 90s idols and recreating iconic moments from the era.
Charli dresses up as all five Spice Girls members, TLC's Lisa Lopes a.k.a. Left Eye and Britney Spears. She additionally strips down to her birthday suit to recreate the legendary rose petal scene from "American Beauty". Meanwhile, Troye cosplays as Backstreet Boys, a curly-haired Justin Timberlake and Eminem.
Elsewhere in the video, they join forces to re-imagine "Titanic" and "Matrix" iconic scenes. In addition to playing Sim versions of themselves, the two revive Marilyn Manson and Rose McGowan's wild look at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards.
"1999" was released on Friday, October 5. Charli and Troye debuted live performance of the song during the latter's concert at Radio City Music in New York City. After she exited the stage, the Australian singer gushed that she was one of his "pop icons." He added, "She is the most creative and she is literally a f***ing tastemaker she's at the forefront, you know what I mean?"
Charli herself has heaped praises for Troye before, confessing in an interview that her Twitter account "just became a Troye Sivan stan account" when "My My My!" first came out.
