Tom Hardy: Cut 'Venom' Scenes Have Nothing to Do With Story

The Eddie Brock depicter is quick to clarify his words after generating a lot of concerns after saying 30 to 40 minutes' worth of scenes were cut from the action movie.

AceShowbiz - Tom Hardy has clarified his comments regarding the number of scenes that were cut from "Venom" at the final edit.

The actor plays the title character as well as the symbiote's investigative journalist counterpart Eddie Brock, while Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate also appear in the superhero movie.

When asked to describe his favourite scene in the flick, Hardy told ComicsExplained that his best moments were embedded in "30 to 40 minutes'" of footage eventually removed from the picture. With many concerned that filmmakers may have ditched some of Venom's most promising content, the British star has now readdressed his previous claims in an interview with IGN.

"I think that's been misunderstood," the 41-year-old explained. "What I'm saying is that I had a lot of time improvising and a lot of freedom to play with Venom. In honesty, there's probably about seven hours or more worth of footage of me playing as Venom and enjoying myself.

"Me and the other executive producers know fully well that has nothing to do with what's in the story, do you know what I mean?" he continued. "But nevertheless, would I like to watch a seven-hour version of Venom? Yeah. Do you know what I mean? But that's as an actor."

The "Dunkirk" star insisted that "everything we wanted" was included, and added that he was keen to shoot a sequel to the "awesome" movie.

However, it appears that Hardy may be alone in wanting a second helping of Venom, as reviews have been overwhelmingly unfavourable.

The Guardian critic Peter Bradshaw wrote that the first film in Sony's Marvel Universe is "riddled with the poison of dullness", while Variety's Owen Gleiberman described it as "unexciting in its ho-hum competence". Don Kaye from Den of Geek added that the feature "might have been made in 1996".

Venom currently has a 27 per cent Rotten Tomatoes rating and hits U.S. cinemas on Friday, October 05.
