The Rick Grimes actor, who is set to exit the apocalyptic series after season 9, says that he's too 'invested' in the show.

AceShowbiz - Andrew Lincoln announced earlier this year that the upcoming season 9 of AMC's "The Walking Dead" would be the last season featuring him. However, it seems that the Rick Grimes depicter won't lose its ties with the zombie series. The Brit hints of his possible return to the series in a new capacity.
In a new interview, Lincoln tells Entertainment Weekly that he's eyeing a directorial duty on the series next year. "I'm going back," says the actor. "I'm going back to shadow a director, and my intention is to direct next year."
Lincoln says that his motivation for directing is because he "can't be that far away because I can't bear it." He goes on saying, "That's how much I am invested in the show and the continuation of the story." During the show's panel at Comic, he also joked that co-stars Norman Reedus and Danai Gurira send him scripts "so I can keep one eye on the series."
Representative for "The Walking Dead" reportedly would not confirm that Lincoln is directing an episode in season 10. It's understandable since AMC hasn't renewed the series for a 10th season.
Should Lincoln serve behind the lens, it won't be the first time for a star from "The Walking Dead" franchise to direct an episode. Colman Domingo, who plays Victor Strand on "Fear the Walking Dead" directed the show's Episode 4x12. Michael Cudlitz (Abraham Ford) also makes a return to set to direct the seventh episode of upcoming season 9 following the death of his character.
Prior to sitting in the director's chair, the two learned the ropes by shadowing directors. That is what Lincoln hopes to do as well.
"The Walking Dead" will return for season 9 on October 7 on AMC.
