Breaking his silence on his divorce from the 'Friends' star, 'The Leftovers' actor insists it was 'the most gentle separation' since there was no animosity between the two of them.

AceShowbiz - Justin Theroux has described his split from Jennifer Aniston as a "gentle separation".

The "Leftovers" actor and the former "Friends" star announced they were separating after two-and-a-half years of marriage in February.

And in a new interview with The New York Times published on Saturday, September 22, Justin opened up about the divorce for the first time, and explained that their split was almost a positive experience.

"The good news is that (it) was probably the most - I'm choosing my words really carefully - it was kind of the most gentle separation, in that there was no animosity," he said.

Dubbing their separation "boring," Justin noted that he and Jennifer respected each other enough to ensure that they did not become enemies.

"Again, neither one of us is dead, neither one of us is looking to throw hatchets at each other," the 47-year-old commented. "It's more like, it's amicable. It's boring, but, you know, we respected each other enough that it was as painless as it could be."

However, he did reveal they were both left "heartbroken" after making the decision to split, but only because he and Jennifer knew their friendship would change.

"But the friendship is shifting and changing, you know, so that part is something that we're both very proud of," Justin added.

The couple announced they had split in February after nearly seven years together.

In a statement released through their rep, Justin and Jennifer divulged that they had decided to part ways at the end of 2017.

"This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year. We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship," they shared.
