The 'Gold Digger' rapper makes the announcement just days after sharing a tweet about his plan to teach a class at an art school in the Windy City.

AceShowbiz - Kanye West is moving back to his native Chicago, Illinois - and "never leaving again."

The rapper made an appearance at fellow Chicago hero Chance The Rapper's OpenMike event in the city on Monday, September 17 and informed the crowd he's heading home for good.

The revelation was met with cheers from the audience, who chanted West's name following the announcement.

"I've got to let you all know, that I'm moving back to Chicago," he said, "and I'm never leaving again."

The news is a surprise considering West, his wife Kim Kardashian and their three children have set up home in Calabasas, California, where Kanye has spent the past 15 years, but it appears he has been feeling a little homesick recently. The star took to Twitter last week, ends September 14 to share a series of tweets relating to Chicago, including one in which he shared plans to teach a class at an art school in the Windy City.

"I will teach a course at the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art," he posted.

However, a representative for the SAIC has since insisted there are no plans for Kanye to become a professor.

"We're flattered that Mr. West would have an interest in teaching emerging artists and designers at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago," Bree Witt, the school’s public relations director, said in a statement. "However, Mr. West is not currently teaching at SAIC, and at this time, there are no plans for him to do so."

As for the American Academy of Art, representatives have yet to comment on Kanye's future teaching endeavours but he does have ties to the school - he briefly attended the American Academy of Art before making it big back in 1997, and, in 2015, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from officials there.
