Meanwhile, Hugh Grant's drama 'A Very English Scandal' brings home the title of Limited Series or TV movie, and Toby Jones' 'Detectorists' steals the Sitcom award.

AceShowbiz - "The Crown" won the top prize at Europe's Rose d'Or awards on Thursday, September 13.

Netflix's hit royal drama, which starred Claire Foy as a youthful Queen Elizabeth II in its first two seasons, won the Drama Series award at the European Broadcasting Union's ceremony in Berlin, Germany. Olivia Colman will take over the role in the upcoming third series, as the British monarch moves towards the middle of her reign.

British programmes dominated the Rose d'Or honors, with Hugh Grant's drama "A Very English Scandal", in which he played shamed U.K. politician Jeremy Thorpe, taking home the prize for Limited Series or TV movie.

Mackenzie Crook and Toby Jones' quirky comedy "Detectorists" won the Sitcom award, and veteran star Joanna Lumley was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement prize.

Joanna, 72, was escorted on stage to accept her prize by dancers gyrating to the theme to her 1970s spy series "The New Avengers" and said: "Tonight, you've made my dream come true. So thank you with all my heart."

Other winners included German satirist Jan Boehmermann, who was named Entertainer of the Year, and BBC kids' animation "The Highway Rat", which won a Children and Youth gong.
