AceShowbiz - Following the massive success of Chinese-American flick "Crazy Rich Asians", it's not surprising if people want to bring similar theme to another platform. First off from her first Emmy win, "Rick and Morty" writer Jessica Gao is reportedly working on a "Crazy Rich Asians"-inspired comedy for ABC.

According to a new report, the untitled script is being pitched as "Lazy Rich Asians". ABC is said to be handing out a script-plus-penalty commitment for the single-camera project.

The possible series will follow Janet Zhao, "a first-generation Chinese-American woman who struggles to set healthy boundaries with her crazy, exhausting family. When her wealthy grandmother dies and names Janet the sole inheritor, she suddenly finds herself the unwilling new matriarch of the family she's spent her life trying to keep at arm's length."

In addition to writing the script, Gao is set serve as executive producer of the project alongside Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo and Samie Kim Falvey. CBS Television Studios and Imagine TV Studios produce.

The possible series is set to ride the wave of success of "Crazy Rich Asians". Directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim, the movie has grossed more than $164.3 million worldwide (with $135.8 million of that domestically) on a budget of $30 million. Based on Kevin Kwan's 2013 novel of the same name, it stars Awkwafina, Nico Santos, Lisa Lu, Ken Jeong and Michelle Yeoh.

The news arrives after Gao succesfully bagged an Emmy award in the outstanding animated program for her work on a "Rick and Morty" episode "Pickle Rick" at the 70th Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Gao's credits include "Silicon Valley", "Bajilion Dollar Propertie$" and "Take My Wife".
