The Backstreet Boys star announces the devastating news that his wife suffered a miscarriage on Twitter, saying, 'I'm heartbroken.'

AceShowbiz - Nick Carter and his wife Lauren are "heartbroken" after she suffered a miscarriage three months into her pregnancy.

The Backstreet Boys star revealed the devastating news in a series of posts on Twitter on Monday, September 10, writing: "God give us peace during this time. I really was looking forward to meeting her after 3 months. I'm heartbroken."

When a fan responded with a message of condolence, Nick, who is father to two-year-old son Odin with Lauren, revealed the couple had been expecting a baby girl, writing: "It was a little sister for Odi..."

Nick is currently on a solo tour of South America and Mexico, and was scheduled to perform in Lima, Peru, on Monday night in what was the final night of the jaunt. And while the 38-year-old initially contemplated cancelling the gig, tweeting "I don't think I can perform tonight. I'm sorry Lima", he eventually decided to go ahead with the performance.

"This will be hard, but for the love of my fans here in Lima I'll be on the stage tonight," he added.

Nick and Lauren married in 2014 and announced they were expecting their first child in 2015. Prior to the happy announcement, Lauren suffered another miscarriage, and revealed the loss had made her nervous about connecting with baby Odin until later in the pregnancy.

"In the beginning of this pregnancy, we had complications and weren't sure if it was going to carry through," she said at the time. "It was just first trimester complications that passed, but I didn't completely connect with my baby until I got later into my second trimester, because I didn't know what was going to happen."
