AceShowbiz - Ryan Phillippe's TV drama "Shooter" has reportedly been cancelled.
The show, based on Stephen Hunter's bestselling novel "Point of Impact", ran for three seasons on cable network USA and hit the headlines before it even aired back in 2016 when the premiere episode was put on ice after a sniper killed police officers overseeing a peace rally in Dallas, Texas.
TV bosses opted to stall the release of the first episode, which opened with the sound of a gunshot and real-life images of historical incidents of gun violence.
The decision was made after former Army Reserve soldier Micah Johnson opened fire on cops monitoring a Black Lives Matter demonstration in July, 2016. Five police officials were killed, while seven others were injured.
And there was more drama for the show two years ago, when Ryan's co-star Tom Sizemore reportedly ran over stuntman Steven De Castro with a car while filming a scene for the show at the Agua Dulce Airport in Santa Clarita, California.
Reports at the time suggested Sizemore, who was driving, misunderstood instructions given by a stunt co-ordinator on set, and did not see De Castro when he put the car in reverse.
Sizemore and production bosses at Viacom and Paramount settled with the stuntman after he sued them for negligence, battery, assault, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Sizemore was later fired from the "Shooter" series weeks later after he was arrested following an altercation with his then-girlfriend.
The TV series was the small screen adaptation of Mark Wahlberg's 2007 action film of the same name.
Phillippe played an ex-Marine sniper, wrongly accused of a crime, who is attempting to clear his name and return to his family.
Deadline sources claim the drama series is being shopped to other networks.
