The sequel will not only return with its original cast, but also bring back director Ruben Fleischer to helm the post-apocalyptic horror comedy

AceShowbiz - "Zombieland" has finally gotten a sequel with its original cast after almost ten years. Sony confirmed that Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin would reunite to star in the project. Ruben Fleischer, who is currently working on Tom Hardy's upcoming movie "Venom", will also return to helm the sequel of the horror comedy film.

There have been stops and starts throughout the process but this time Sony made sure that it's settled. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the production of the sequel will begin in January as the film is set to be released in October 2019.

Original Zombieland writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who were also credited in Marvel's "Deadpool" franchise, are tapped to write the script for the project, while Gavin Polone is returning as producer.

The sequel will focus on Wichita, Little Rock, Tallahassee and Columbus as they face off against new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie. There will be new human survivors too. According to the studio, they have to face the growing pains of their snarky, makeshift family.

"This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time - and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse, and Abigail," Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch said in a statement. "These are some of the most in-demand actors and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters. We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly amazing."

It's still unknown how much budget Sony would spend for the sequel, but it's almost definitely higher than the first film's budget since all the actors became Academy Award nominees. Not to mention Stone won an Oscar for her performance in 2016's "La La Land".

The first movie was made for under $24 million and grossed more than four times worldwide.
