'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' Remains Supreme at North America Box Office

Meanwhile, Benicio Del Toro-starring movie 'Sicario: Day of the Soldado' debuts at No. 3 with $12 million.

AceShowbiz - Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has had another monster weekend at the U.S. box office.

The sequel, starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, picked up $60 million (GBP45.4 million) over the weekend, taking the blockbuster's 10-day tally to over $264 million (GBP200 million).

The dinosaur adventure has now hauled in $932 million (GBP705.5 million) at the global box office and stays on top in North America for a second week, beating out challenges from Incredibles 2 and Sicario: Day of the Soldado, which debuted higher than expected with $19 million (GBP14.3 million).

The drug drama, starring Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin, has now debuted higher than the original Denis Villeneuve film, Sicario, which opened with $12 million (GBP9 million) in 2015.

That film, which landed a trio of Oscar nominations, went on to grab $84 million (GBP63.5 million) globally.

Director Stefano Sollima's sequel has not been as warmly received among critics.

Meanwhile, the 2018 North American box office has just hit $6 billion in record time, according to ComScore, a week before the release of Disney/Marvel's latest blockbuster, Ant-Man and the Wasp, which is expected to rake in as much as $80 million (GBP60.5 million) next weekend., August 06-08.

"The much-anticipated debut of Disney’s Ant-Man and The Wasp will get the momentum train rolling again with what will be the latest in an impressively long line of box office and critical hits for the Marvel brand," ComScore box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian says.
