The country singer takes to Twitter to congratulate Maddie, saying, 'Can't wait to catch you out on the road!'

AceShowbiz - Country superstar Carrie Underwood has applauded the new American Idol winner Maddie Poppe following her victory on Monday night, May 21.

The Iowa native beat runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson and third-placed Gabby Barrett to take the crown on the rebooted TV talent show, and former Idol champ Carrie, who recently made an appearance as a guest mentor on the series, was quick to share her well wishes to the singer on Twitter.

"Congratulations, @MaddiePoppe !," she posted. "What a fun finale! You all should be so proud! Can't wait to catch you out on the road! Lots of @AmericanIdol (love) tonight!!!"

Idol judge Lionel Richie also shared his praise for the 20-year-old online after the live final.

"Congratulations again @maddiepoppe!" he tweeted. "My dear, your journey has only just begun!! I look forward to seeing you share your music w/ (with) the world & watching you grow. So happy I was there to witness your story unfold. Keep continuing to shine! You're a star!!!".

Meanwhile, Maddie and Caleb, who revealed on TV that they have secretly been dating, were also showered with love online from fellow judges Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.

"The couple that sangs (sic) together stays together...," wrote Katy, as Luke posted, "@calebleemusic @maddiepoppe y'all are great together (sic)".

Their budding romance, which began after meeting in January, meant both Maddie and Caleb couldn't be happier to face off with one another in the final round of the contest.

"Honestly, when it got down to just us two, I was like, 'I don't care, I'll be happy either way,'" Maddie told breakfast show Good Morning America. "I really wanted him to win, but I really wanted to win too!"

And Caleb, who hails from Georgia, added, "It was kinda conflicting at times, I think, because part of me was Team Maddie for a while, as much as I wanted to win myself, I just felt like she was really kicking butt in this competition. Either way I was fine (with the outcome)."

Katy, Lionel, and Luke will each be returning to the judges' panel for season 17 of Idol, which was relaunched on U.S. network ABC earlier this year after it was dropped by Fox officials in 2016.
