AceShowbiz - Gritty TV show "Peaky Blinders" triumphed at the 2018 British Academy Television Awards on Sunday, May 13, earning the coveted Best Drama Series title. The hit crime drama beat the likes of "The Crown" and "Line of Duty" to take the top prize - its only nomination - at the London ceremony, where show creator Steven Knight admitted he was a little disappointed at the lack of acting nods for the cast, which includes Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory, and Paul Anderson.
"Soon maybe they will be here as well because I think they deserve to be," he said during his acceptance speech.
Abuse drama "Three Girls" was named Best Mini-Series, while its star, Molly Windsor, claimed the Best Actress accolade, emerging victorious despite strong competition from Thandie Newton ("Line of Duty"), Sinead Keenan ("Little Boy Blue"), and "The Crown"'s Claire Foy.
The event wasn't a total loss for Netflix's popular royal drama series - Vanessa Kirby, who portrayed Princess Margaret, won Best Supporting Actress, and dedicated the award to Queen Elizbeth II's late sister.
"I felt like the luckiest person in the world to play somebody that was so colourful and vivid and brave and strong," she told the audience at the Royal Festival Hall.
Meanwhile, Sean Bean earned the Best Actor honour for "Broken", and Brian F. O'Byrne picked up Best Supporting Actor for "Little Boy Blue", based on the tragic death of 11-year-old Rhys Jones, who was fatally shot in Liverpool, England in 2007.
Detectorists' Toby Jones claimed Best Male Comedy Performance, as Daisy May Cooper took home the female equivalent for This Country, which was also named Best Scripted Comedy.
Other notable honours went to "The Handmaid's Tale" for Best International Programme, "Murdered For Being Different" for Best Single Drama, and "Casualty" for Best Soap and Continuing Drama.
"Britain's Got Talent" was celebrated with the Lew Grade Award for Entertainment Programme, talk show host [c=Graham Norton landed Best Entertainment Performance for "The Graham Norton Show", Love Island nabbed the prize for Best Reality and Constructed Factual, and nature show "Blue Planet II" scored Virgin TV's Must-See Moments award.
