The 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' actor is reportedly offered the role of Al Simmons a.k.a. Spawn in the upcoming project based on Todd McFarlane's comic books.

AceShowbiz - Jamie Foxx will likely venture into another comic book role. The actor, who starred as the supervillain Electro in 2014's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2", is reportedly eyed for the lead role in an upcoming "Spawn" reboot.
According to The Hashtag Show, the comic book creator Todd McFarlane has been pursuing the reboot since five years ago and now the project seems to come together under Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions. Casting director Terri Taylor ("Get Out") has reportedly begun assembling a cast ahead of an early August start and Foxx has been offered the role of Al Simmons a.k.a. Spawn.
Spawn is an antihero who was created by McFarlane and first appeared in "Spawn" #1 in May 1992. The first movie adaptation arrived in 1997, with Michael Jai White playing the titular demonic character. However, the depiction of the antihero was met with criticism as it was very different from the portrayal in the comic books. McFarlane has promised that the reboot would be an R-rated movie described as more of a "horror movie and a thriller movie" than a superhero movie.
Foxx has not signed on for the role and he may make the decision based on how fast the project moves forward. Should he take on the role, he will not be the only lead actor in the movie. The upcoming reboot will reportedly center on Spawn and Twitch Williams of "Sam and Twitch", who work together to track down some baddies and dish out a special kind of vengeance.
Sam Burke and Twitch Williams are NYPD homicide detective duo who were first featured in "Spawn" comics and worked sometimes alongside Spawn. Due to their popularity, they were later given their own self-titled series in 1999.
Foxx nabbed an Academy Award for Best Actor and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the 2004 biographical film "Ray". He later starred in Quentin Tarantino's critically acclaimed Western movie "Django Unchained" (2012) and starred as Will Stacks in musical film "Annie" (2014). He's last seen in "Baby Driver" (2017) and will next appear in Leonardo DiCaprio-produced "Robin Hood" which stars Taron Egerton as the title character.
