The series will chronicle the Rothschild family's rise from poverty to become the richest and most powerful dynasty in the world during the 19th century.

AceShowbiz - The man behind hit TV drama "Downton Abbey" is developing a new show about the richest family in history. Julian Fellowes is working on a new series about the Rothschild banking dynasty with former socialite-turned-New Statesman associate editor Jemima Khan producing via her new company Instinct Productions.

The drama, titled "Five Arrows", will chronicle the Rothschild family's rise from poverty to become the richest and most powerful dynasty in the world during the 19th century.

Khan is a good ally for the writers as she herself comes from a successful banking family. Her father is Sir James Goldsmith, whose family made its money in merchant banking in the 16th century.

Ironically, according to Deadline, Fellowes has a literary link to the Rothschilds - Highclere Castle, which was the fictional setting for "Downton Abbey". It is owned by the eighth earl of Carnarvon, whose ancestor the fifth earl of Carnarvon married Almina Wombwell, the illegitimate daughter of Alfred de Rothschild, the grandson of the banking empire's founder.

Meanwhile, the writer is currently working on U.S. period drama "The Gilded Age", which will debut next year 2019, while reports suggest a film version of "Downton Abbey" will begin production later this year.
