The fifth 'Indiana Jones' movie will reportedly be Steven Spielberg's next project, before he works on a 'West Side Story' remake.

AceShowbiz - Reports recently surfaced that Steven Spielberg plans on making a new adaptation of the Broadway musical "West Side Story". But as The Hollywood Reporter noted, the 71-year-old filmmaker would first film "Indiana Jones V" before working on the "West Side Story" remake.

According to the site, the Academy Award-winning director plans to shoot the fifth installment of the action, adventure film franchise in 2019, with a goal of having it released in 2020. This means the new "Indy" movie will probably by Spielberg's next project in his slate after he directed "Ready Player One" which is due out on March 30 this year.

In September 2017, it was reported that the script for "Indiana Jones V" had been done, but it's unknown if it needs to undergo a rewriting. Plot details are still unknown, but it has been confirmed that Shia LaBeouf won't return to reprise his role as Mutt a.k.a. Henry Jones III.

There has been speculation that Karen Allen may not be back as Marion Ravenwood in the fifth movie as the actress said in April 2017, "It's a complete mystery to me as to whether or not Marion is even a part of this next one."

As for the "West Side Story" remake, Spielberg has begun the casting process for the project. Casting notices were sent out on Wednesday, January 24, revealing that he's looking for Spanish-speaking actors for the main roles. This will likely be a striking difference from the original movie, as the remake will be hiring more Latino actors.

However, the remake will need some time before it sees the light of day, as Spielberg is planning an extensive search to find the right actors.

"West Side Story" is set against the backdrop of a changing and simmering New York City as there is tension between a white American gang, the Jets, led by Riff Lorton, and a Puerto Rican gang of immigrants, the Sharks, led by Bernardo Nunez. Issues of immigrant life and assimilation are touched upon as the two lovers, white Tony and Latina Maria, the sister of the Sharks' leader, dream of running away and getting married.
