Nina Dobrev has crushed thousands of fans' hope to see her appearing in the fifth and final season of "The Vampire Diaries" spin-off "The Originals". The Bulgarian-Canadian actress reveals in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly that she won't be returning to Mystic Falls.

"No," the actress says when asked if she will reprise her role as Elena Gilbert on the spin-off, much to fans' disappointment. "No, I will not be on 'The Originals', no."

Nina shares that she's currently working on another project. "We literally just wrapped a few months ago. I doubt that would be in the books for me," she says. "But, yeah, no, I've been so busy with all kinds of other things going on right now that I don't know that I'd be able to sign on."

The 28-year-old beauty also reveals that being old is another reason why she opted for not appearing on "The Originals". "I'm not a young twenty-something anymore. I don't think I could play a vampire," she adds, laughing. "I'm getting old."

Although "The Originals" is coming to an end, it doesn't mean that fans won't see more vampires in the coming years. "I could see our universes coming together in five years, 10 years, when people miss the shows," showrunner Julie Plec previously said. "There's still stories to be told for 'The Originals' that our characters here very smoothly and seamlessly fit into, so if we don't get to do that while 'The Originals' is still on the air, I think that one day, if somebody wanted it badly enough, it could exist."

"The Originals" season 5 is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2018.
