Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have released the first trailer for "Stronger", based on the inspirational real-life story of Boston Marathon bombing survivor Jeff Bauman. The intense trailer sees Jake Gyllenhaal as the Boston-based man, who lost both his legs in the 2013 attack.
The over-two-minute video offers a glimpse of Bauman before and after the bombing. He's waiting at the finish line of the Boston Marathon to cheer on then-girlfriend Erin Hurley, played by Tatiana Maslany, in an effort to win her back.
The trailer also showcases how Bauman learned to walk and overcame the life-changing trauma. After he lost both his legs at the knees, he went on to undergo extensive physical therapy. He later learned to walk again with the help of prosthetics.
Directed by David Gordon Green, "Stronger" is based on Bauman's best-selling memoir of the same name. The drama is set to hit theaters across the U.S. on September 22. Starring alongside Gyllenhaal and Maslany are Miranda Richardson, Clancy Brown and Frankie Shaw.
