Chris Evans has responded to the rumors that he won't play the iconic Captain America again after "Avengers 4". During "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Monday, April 3, Evans revealed that "Avengers 4" indeed would mark the end of his contract.

"My contract is up," he told Ellen DeGeneres. "I have 'Avengers' three and four. We do three now and four in the latter part of the year and then after that, that is the end of my contract."

During the promotion of his new movie "Gifted", Evans also opened up about the matter. As he knew he couldn't wear the red-white-and-blue costume forever, he admitted that he would have tough time to deal with the possible retirement. "I'd be lying if I said it wouldn't be hard for me," said Evans in a report released by USA Today.

He went on saying, "But the passing of time and the passing of torches is part of the experience. Nothing lasts forever. There's a beauty in that departure, even if it can be sad at times. It's also joyful."

Evans said that superhero movies would always be reinvented and he would be okay with that. "I've had a great run. Superheroes are reinventable entities, like Batman or even James Bond. These movies find new incarnations and new ways to tell the story. I am all for it," explained Evans. He later added, "However they want to proceed after 'Avengers 4', it's really up to them. I walk away with no regrets and endlessly thankful."

Either way, we can still see Evans reprising his role as the super soldier in the upcoming "Avengers: Infinity War". Recent report said that the actor would start filming the movie in May.

"Avengers: Infinity War" is set to hit U.S. theaters on May 4, 2018. In the first set footage, Marvel head Kevin Feige confirmed that the Avengers would team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy and Spider-Man in the movie. It has been said that the Avengers will be completely unprepared to face villain Thanos after the events in "Captain America: Civil War".

Other "Avengers: Infinity War" cast members include Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, Chris Hemsworth, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Zoe Saldana, Josh Brolin and Dave Bautista.

"Game of Thrones" star Peter Dinklage is also starring and is speculated to play MODOK, while Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Doctor Strange. "Kong: Skull Island" actor Terry Notary will play the right-hand man of Thanos (Brolin) and recent report said that Thanos' servant Corvus Glave might also appear in the movie.
