AceShowbiz - The stars of "Hidden Figures" and "Stranger Things" were the big winners at the 2017 Screen Actors Guild awards held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 29. Powerful political speeches from the casts of the drama and the sci-fi show dominated the evening.
%cTaraji P. Henson% called for unity during her acceptance speech. "This story is of unity," she shared, "This story is about what happens when we put our differences aside and we come together as a human race. We win. Love wins every time."
One of the "Hidden Figures" stars, %cMahershala Ali%, won an award for best supporting actor for his role in "Moonlight".
"Stranger Things" star %cDavid Harbour%, meanwhile, delivered a rousing speech on the importance of inclusion. "We will shelter freaks and outcasts, those who have no home," he told the crowd, "We will get past the lies. We will hunt monsters. And when we are at a loss amidst the hypocrisy and casual violence of certain individuals and institutions, we will, as per Chief Jim Hopper, punch some people in the face when they seek to destroy what we have envisioned for ourselves and the marginalized."
Other winners talked about President %cDonald Trump%'s controversial executive order on immigration.
%cJulia Louis-Dreyfus%, who brought home an award for Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series for shared, "This immigrant ban is a blemish and it is un-American." She then read out an official statement on the matter from the Writers Guild of America.
%cBryan Cranston%, who won an award for his role as Lyndon B. Johnson in HBO's movie "All the Way", said, "I'm often asked how would LBJ think about Donald Trump. I honestly feel that 36 would put his arm around 45 and earnestly wish him success and also whisper in his ear something ... 'Just don't piss in the soup that all of us gotta eat.' "
%cEmma Stone%, who took home an award for Best Female Actor in a Lead Role for "La La Land", spoke about the importance of bringing joy to people as "we're in a really tricky time at the moment in our country."
The 2017 SAG Awards acted as a strong indicator of success at the upcoming Academy Awards which will be held on February 26.
