AceShowbiz - Tim Miller has signed on to executive produce a live-action adaptation of "Sonic the Hedgehog" at Sony. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "Deadpool" helmer will develop the project with his longtime Blur Studio cohort Jeff Fowler, who is set to make his feature directorial debut.

"Jeff is an incredible director with strong story instincts," Miller said of his collaborator. "The world of Sonic presents the perfect opportunity for Jeff to leverage his experience in animation to bring new dimension to this iconic character."

Since the release of "Sonic" game in 1991, the character has become one of the world's biggest gaming icons. In the video game, the titular blue speedster races along many levels and locales, collecting gold rings with his animal allies, such as Tails and Knuckles, as he attempts to foil the global domination plans of Dr. Eggman.

Sony plans to make a hybrid CG-animated/live-action family film, with Patrick Casey and Josh Miller, who created "Golan the Insatiable", penning the script. Andrea Giannetti will oversee for the studio. Neal H. Moritz will serve as a producer via his Original Film banner, along with Marza Animation Planet's Takeshi Ito and Mie Onishi.

Miller and Fowler were nominated for a Best Animated Short Film Academy Award in 2005 for their farm animal-centric "Gopher Broke". Miller made his feature directorial debut with "Deadpool", which grossed $782 million worldwide. He recently exited the sequel due to creative differences with actor Ryan Reynolds.
