New details about Tim Miller's recent departure from "Deadpool 2" have surfaced online. Words are, the ex-director wanted to make a very different, "more stylish" version of the movie, which reportedly would have cost more than what Ryan Reynolds had projected.
According to TheWrap, the 40-year-old actor, who also serves as a co-producer, wanted to make a "scrappy" and inexpensive sequel similar to "Deadpool", which grossed over $780 million worldwide on a $58 million budget.
Miller, however, was interested in making more of a "stylized" sequel just like other big-budget superhero movies. Sources with knowledge of the situation said that the ex-director's version would have cost three times as much as the first movie.
"There were two totally different movies on the table, and one of them just wasn't 'Deadpool'," one insider familiar with both concepts said. And eventually, Reynolds and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick's version was chosen, prompting Miller to leave the project.
A new director for "Deadpool 2" has yet to be named, but fans recently launched a petition urging Reynolds to hire Oscar-winning helmer Quentin Tarantino. No additional information is known if the production is still slated to begin early next year.
"Deadpool 2" is set for a January 12, 2018 release in U.S. theaters.
