"Thor: Ragnarok" is one of the most highly-anticipated movies in 2017, but Taika Waititi has surprised fans by admitting that he's unfamiliar with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The 41-year-old helmer even revealed that he tried to "ignore" the previous "Thor" films to make the third movie.

"I made an effort to ignore the fact there are other 'Thor' films," he confessed during a Reddit AMA session on Saturday night, October 15. "I honestly know NOTHING outside of what I'm doing. I'm trying to ignore the rest of the universe and just make my own awesome movie."

However, Waititi promised the follow-up to "Thor: The Dark World" would be the most "out there" Marvel film ever. "I think ['Thor: Ragnarok'] will be one of the most adventurous and most 'out there' of all the Marvel movies," he said. "It's a crazy movie."

The New Zealand filmmaker also revealed that he wanted to include John C. Reilly's Rhomann Dey from "Guardians of the Galaxy" in "Thor: Ragnarok". "I would have liked to get John C. Reilly's character in the film but there was no real way to pull it off," he admitted.

No official synopsis has been released, but "Thor: Ragnarok" will see the return of Chris Hemsworth as the titular superhero, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Anthony Hopkins as Odin. They are joined by Mark Ruffalo, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, Tessa Thompson and Cate Blanchett.
