"Nashville" gets a light of hope. While its fate is unknown, the ABC drama is getting new showrunners to join the possible fifth season.

Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick, known for their works in "My So-Called Life" and "Thirtysomething", have signed on to replace showrunner Dee Johnson. Last fall, the pair signed a first-look deal with Lionsgate Television which produces "Nashville". The deal will make them new showrunners should ABC give it another season.

"Nashville" is not among the series that the Alphabet had renewed earlier this month. However, the network is also yet to determine the future of other series like "Dr. Ken", "Marvel's Agent Carter" and "Castle". Back in January, ABC head Paul Lee said, "We don't have any plans to finish Nashville. We have an incredibly passionate audience. The Nashville audience grows by a large amount in our delay viewings. No, at this point, no plans for Nashville other than to keep it going."

The series, starring Hayden Panettiere and Connie Britton, posted 4.2 million total viewers in last week's episode.
