The first-ever 'American Idol' winner paused her performance of 'Piece by Piece' several times as she tried to hold back her tears.

AceShowbiz - Kelly Clarkson went back to where it all began as she appeared in the Thursday, February 25 episode of "American Idol". The first-ever winner of the long-running singing competition served as a guest judge that night, but she also treated viewers to a live performance of her own.

Clarkson, who was heavily pregnant with her second child, took the stage in a long-sleeved black dress. She sang "Piece by Piece" from her latest album of the same title in front of the audience and the top 10 contestants as well as judges Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban.

She wowed everyone with her signature powerful vocals as usual. Towards the end of her performance, she got too emotional and paused the song several times as she tried to hold back her tears. Later, the judges gave the songbird standing ovations while host Ryan Seacrest comforted her.

This isn't Clarkson's first time to have returned to "American Idol" since she won the competition in 2002. However, this may be her last time performing live on the show, which will end its run once the winner of season 15 is announced in the next few months.
