'The Revenant' star Leonardo DiCaprio thanked his parents, while 'Room' actress thanked fellow SAG actors.

AceShowbiz - "Spotlight", Leonardo DiCaprio, Brie Larson, and Idris Elba are among the victors in the movie categories of the 2016 SAG Awards. The winners, selected by the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, were pretty diverse compared to this year's Oscars nominations.

Larson, who won the Golden Globes for playing Ma in "Room", took home the Female Actor in Leading Role for the same role. She thanked the film's cast as well as director Lenny Abrahamson. She also thanked SAG actors for making films, saying, "Watching movies made me feel less alone ... and gave me space to explore my creativity."

DiCaprio won the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for playing Hugh Glass in "The Revenant". The actor who won the Golden Globes for the same role, recalled how his parents supported his passion. "Thank you for listening to an overly ambitious, slightly annoying 13-year-old kid who wanted to go on auditions every day after school, I wouldn't be standing here without you," he said. He also thanked director Alejandro Inarritu, fellow cast and the production team.

In supporting categories, Elba won for his role as commandant in "Beasts of No Nation". He said in his acceptance speech, "I want to tell you man, we made a film about real people and real lives. To be awarded for it is very special, because a lot of people were damaged through that. So thank you for giving this film some respect and love."

Alicia Vikander won her first SAG awards through her role in "The Danish Girl". The daughter of stage actress Maria Fahl Vikander said she used to watch her mom perform on stage and said, "I saw collaboration and camaraderie between actors and I learned then and I know still that acting is not a bubble. That only happens between acting companions."

The cast of "Spotlight" such as Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton and Rachel McAdams snatched the ensemble in a motion picture category. Keaton said the movie was more than a look at Boston's Catholic Church scandal, saying, "This is not just for the survivors of this horrific situation but for me, personally, this is really for the disenfranchised everywhere. This is for every Flint, Michigan,in the world. This is for the powerless ... There's fair and there's unfair. And I've always voted for fair." Meanwhile, "Mad Max: Fury Road" cast won the stunt ensemble cast category.

The 2016 SAG Awards was held on Saturday, January 30 in Los Angeles. It also gave recognition to television series performers.
