The rock legend, who recently celebrated his 69th birthday, passed away on Sunday after 18 month battle with cancer.

AceShowbiz - The world is just losing one of the greatest talent in music. David Bowie died on Sunday, January 10, just two days after his 69th birthday. The sad news was announced on his Facebook page and has been confirmed by his son Duncan Jones.

"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer," so read a post on the artist's Facebook page. "While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief."

His son Duncan took to Twitter to address his dad's passing. He shared a throwback picture of him and his dad, and captioned it, "Very sorry and sad to say it's true. I'll be offline for a while. Love to all."

Bowie recently released his new album "Blackstar" to celebrate his 69th birthday.

Fellow musicians have been mourning his death. Adam Lambert simply tweeted, "RIP Bowie." Kanye West wrote, "David Bowie was one of my most important inspirations, so fearless, so creative, he gave us magic for a lifetime. I pray for his friends and family." Nick Jonas posted, "David Bowie," along with a sad emoji.
