AceShowbiz - A new immersive exhibition titled David Bowie: You’re Not Alone is set to debut in London this April, featuring a captivating showcase of the legendary artist's most celebrated performances alongside previously unseen materials.
The 360° multimedia experience is produced by Lightroom, a creative team known for their collaborations with renowned figures such as David Hockney, Tom Hanks, and Anna Wintour. This exhibition is conceptualized and designed by Mark Grimmer, who was also the creative director for the acclaimed V&A’s David Bowie Is exhibition, in partnership with Tom Wexler.
Tickets are currently available, with prices starting at £25 for adults and £15 for students and concessions. Guests can purchase tickets for visits from April 22 to June 28 via Lightroom’s official website, with additional tickets for summer dates to be released soon.
The exhibition will display a mix of seldom-seen and never-before-exhibited content, meticulously curated from thousands of hours of footage housed in the David Bowie Archive in New York. Highlights include performances of iconic tracks such as ‘Space Oddity’, ‘Heroes’, and ‘Blackstar’.
The show intricately weaves performance footage with a rich assortment of photography, drawings, lyrics, personal notes, and audio recordings. The film presentation is organized into thematic chapters and features a looping format. Among the notable clips is a somewhat awkward transatlantic interview with Russell Harty from 1975, alongside a reconstructed set from the ‘Diamond Dogs’ tour.
In line with previous Lightroom exhibitions, the footage will be projected around the walls of a cube-shaped room, positioning visitors at the heart of Bowie’s live performances. The musical tracks have been uniquely reconfigured to align with Lightroom’s specialized spatial audio system, guiding attendees through the remarkable journey of Bowie’s storied career.
Grimmer expressed, “It says something about our relationship with artistic heroes that we’re drawn to mystery, otherness, the alien… In Bowie’s case, this is our construct, not his.” He emphasized that throughout his career, Bowie continually resisted being depicted as anything other than human, and this exhibition aims to celebrate him as a beacon of human creativity.
This announcement comes shortly after the tenth anniversary of Bowie’s passing on January 10, 2016, just two days after his 69th birthday and the release of ‘Blackstar’. His widow, Iman, recently shared a new tattoo commemorating ‘Blackstar’, while fellow artists such as The Libertines, The Horrors, Anna Calvi, and The Molotovs paid tribute in various ways.
