More than 120,000 people have signed the online petition asking the former 'Daily Show' host to moderate one of the 2016 presidential debates.

AceShowbiz - Jon Stewart may have lost his regular platform to take on the presidential campaign, but he may find a new way to cover the presidential debate. His fan has launched an online petition on Change.org calling for the comedian to moderate one of the 2016 presidential debates, and it has gained more than 100,000 signatures.

"Over the last 16 years, Jon Stewart has played an influential and iconic role in covering US politics and media. We believe he should continue that tradition as a moderator at one of the 2016 Presidential Debates," reads the petition.

Mariel Waters of Stanhope, NJ who started the petition adds, "Jon Stewart is more than qualified to tackle the moderating job. Mr. Stewart has interviewed 15 heads of state, 22 members of the United States Cabinet, 32 members of the United States Senate, 7 members of the United States House of Representatives, and scores of other political leaders from this country and around the world while establishing himself as the most trusted person in (satirical) news."

Waters also points out Stewart's creditentials for covering the election, "In addition to his vast experience working with political figures, Jon Stewart is accomplished in presidential election coverage. His work on The Daily Show received the prestigious Peabody Award for its coverage of the 2000 and 2004 presidential races."

Stewart bid farewell to "The Daily Show" audience on August 6, after 16 years hosting the show. As his first post-"The Daily Show" gig, he has been booked to host WWE's 2015 "SummerSlam" that will air live from Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Saturday, August 23 starting at 7 P.M. ET on WWE Network.
