Teenagers in Lakewood are terrorized by a masked serial killer after a brutal event, which may be or may not be connected to a crime spree from the town's dark past.

AceShowbiz - MTV has released a new official trailer of its "Scream" TV series. Similar to the previous trailer, it opens with a murder in a hot tub before showing some carefree teenagers partying in a house where Kieran Wilcox (Amadeus Serafini) warns his friends, "Maybe we should be afraid. A bunch of drunk teenagers, a party by the lake where your home-grown killer died."

Another male student says, "By the time the first body's found, it's only a matter of time before the blood bath commences," and he's right as a masked serial killer is seen slaughtering his/her victims one by one.

There's also a glimpse of Emma Duval (Willa Fitzgerald) flirting with Kienan and telling him, "You have a dark mind." He replies, "You have no idea."

Based on the slasher film franchise created by Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven, "Scream" TV series "kicks off when entitled Lakewood High teen Nina is murdered in an apparent crime of passion. The slaying exposes the inner-workings of the town's complex social hierarchy."

"The town's medical examiner, Maggie (Tracy Middendorf), works with Sheriff Clark (Jason Wiles), to solve the murder and determine if it's connected to a crime spree from the town's dark past - a killing spree committed by a previous generation's 'bullying victim' Brandon James."

The horror thriller follows shy popular girl Emma, artsy loner Audrey (Bex Taylor-Klaus), computer geek Noah (John Karna), all-American athlete Will (Connor Weil), ferocious socialite Brooke (Carlson Young), and mysterious new kid Kieran.

The show recently introduced the serial killer's new mask. Co-showrunner Jill Blotevogel tells The Hollywood Reporter about the new mask, "Our mask was a post-op surgical mask worn by a deformed teen who went on a murderous rampage two decades earlier. We tried to create a look that shared some basic DNA with the original Ghostface mask but meshed with our long-running mystery story that will power the series ... Our killer likes to play games and wear masks in many ways - especially using technology - and is a chameleon of sorts."

"Scream" debuts Tuesday, June 30 at 10/9c on MTV.
