Streep stars as Ricki alongside her real-life daughter, Mamie Gummer whose character in the movie goes through a difficult divorce. While Ricki is in search of popularity, her ex-husband, Pete (Kevin Kline), asks her to come back home to help her daughter face serious problem in her marriage. Returning home, Ricki gets a chance to make things right with the family she left behind.
