Big Sean's 'Dark Sky Paradise' Lands Atop Billboard 200

With 173,000 equivalent units, the album becomes the rapper's first effort to land at No. 1 on the chart.

AceShowbiz - Big Sean has scored his first No. 1 album on Billboard 200 chart with his third studio effort, "Dark Sky Paradise". The record, which was released last week via G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam Records, opens with 173,000 units including 139,000 pure album sales. The rest is made up of track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

"Dark Sky Paradise" also logs Sean's best sales week ever, easily surpassing its predecessors, 2013's "Hall of Fame" (72,000) and 2011's "Finally Famous" (87,000). Additionally, the new LP gives G.O.O.D. Music its third No. 1 set following Kanye West's "Yeezus" (2013) and Common's "Finding Forever" (2007).

At Billboard 200's No. 2, Kid Rock's "First Kiss" debuts with 146,000 units and gives the musician his eighth top 10 album. Trailing behind is the "Fifty Shades of Grey" soundtrack which keeps its position steady at No. 3 with additional 108,000.

At No. 4, Drake's "If You're Reading This It's Too Late" falls from last week's No. 2 with 99,000. Fellow former first placer Taylor Swift's "1989" follows at No. 5 with 78,000 units. The former country singer's pal Ed Sheeran has his "X" landed at No. 6 with 73,000.

At No. 7, Chris Brown and Tyga's "Fan of a Fan: The Album" arrives with 67,000. The collaborative set is the seventh top 10 album for Breezy and the third for T-Raww.

Sam Smith's "In the Lonely Hour" is the next title on the list, slipping two rungs to No. 8 with 60,000. Last week's No. 1, Imagine Dragon's "Smoke + Mirrors", plunges to No. 9 with 55,000. Maroon 5 takes the last spot in the top 10 as their "V" dips from No. 7 with 49,000.
