The former 'American Idol' winner, who admitted she didn't even know Tokio Hotel's version of the song existed until recently, said she had no intention to 'disrespect' the band.

AceShowbiz - Kelly Clarkson recently released "Run Run Run" from her "Piece by Piece" album. When fans first listened to the ballad, which features guest vocals from John Legend, they immediately thought it was a cover of a track by Tokio Hotel. However, it turns out that Clarkson herself had no idea she was covering the band's song.

She finally found out the German group's version of "Run Run Run" a few days ago. After listening to the song, she took to Twitter to praise it and admit she didn't even know it existed. "Wow, just heard @tokiohotel version of Run Run Run! So great! Had never heard that before?! Some fans brought this to my attention," she wrote.

In follow-up tweets, she explained that the only version she'd heard was a piano/vocal that was sent to her by one of the song's writers two years ago. "Well, there's 2 versions of a great song! :)," she continued before adding that she had no intention to "disrespect" Tokio Hotel.

"Also, they weren't included as writers of the song because I guess they didn't write it according 2 publishers. Not trying to disrespect them," she said. "It's a bummer that I wasn't given all the information and that it looks like I'm ripping them off because I would never do that 2 any artist."

Tokio Hotel's "Run Run Run" was featured on their 2014 album "Kings of Suburbia". After learning of Clarkson's version, the band gave the former "American Idol" winner a shout-out on Twitter, saying, "Check out the cover version of our song #RunRunRun from the talented @kelly_clarkson and @johnlegend. So flattered!"
