An alternate ending of "How I Met Your Mother" that recently landed online may please fans who were disappointed with the series finale. The alternate version which is included on the upcoming complete series box set ends on a happier note.
It ends with Ted meeting the titular mother, Tracy McConnell, on a train station and gives a glimpse at their wedding. Old Ted recaps his journey before meeting his future wife, but there's no sad scene of the mother in hospital.
In the original version that aired on CBS, the mother died, while Barney and Robin got divorced. Ted later stole the blue French horn for Robin, hinting that he may get back with the woman he's pursuing at the beginning of the show.
After fans were left furious with the sad ending, co-creator/executive producer Carter Bays revealed there's an alternate ending. "16 days ago today we were in the HIMYM edit room, trying to decide between two very different endings," he tweeted back in May. "We only shot one script, but through edit room magic we had two possible outcomes for the series." He added, "We chose the ending we chose and we stand by it. But we loved the other version too."
