FOX has released a fresh trailer for its highly-anticipated new series "Gotham", highlighting the background story how Detective James Gordon becomes deeply involved with upholding justice in the city. The future Commissioner Gordon is seen arriving at a crime scene while the villains like Oswald Cobblepott/Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), Selina Kyle/Catwoman (Camren Bicondova) and Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) are watching.

"This is my city. I've come back because I care what's happening to it," he says in voiceover. "Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who cares. This town is at a tipping point: crime, corruption, ooze on every corner. Someone needs to take a stand against it all - and that is where we come in." Toward the end of the video, Gordon unfolds a newspaper headline about himself with a handwritten message on it which reads, "Welcome Home."

"Gotham", which serves as a Batman prequel, will explore the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains who made Gotham City famous. Brave, honest and ready to prove himself, the newly-minted detective is partnered with the brash, but shrewd police legend Bullock as the two stumble upon the city's highest-profile case ever: the murder of local billionaires Thomas and Martha Wayne.

It will follow Gordon's turbulent and singular rise through the Gotham City police department while highlighting the unlikely friendship Gordon forms with the young heir to the Wayne fortune. It is a friendship that will last them all of their lives, playing a crucial role in helping the young boy eventually become the crusader he's destined to be.

Benjamin Mckenzie stars as Gordon and Donal Logue is cast as his mentor Detective Harvey Bullock. David Mazouz plays young Bruce Wayne, while Sean Pertwee plays Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce's butler.

The crime drama will launch Monday, September 22 at 8 P.M. on FOX. The show is brought to Comic-Con International in San Diego on Saturday, July 26 as part of WB/DC presentation.
