Kurt Sutter says at the TCA that the disturbing scene to be seen in the first episode of season 6 is a 'catalyst for the third act of this morality play that we're doing.'

As "Sons of Anarchy" season 6 premiere was screened at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Friday, August 2, TV critics were shocked with the conclusion which features disturbing violence. While this surely has become talk of the town, series creator Kurt Sutter said it was never his intention.
"I've wanted to do that story for about three years," he told reporters. "It's an organic story to our world ... thematically, it's the right thing. ... Nothing is done gratuitously." Insisting that it "is not being done to be sensational," he added that the event would serve as a "catalyst for the third act of this morality play that we're doing."
"It sets everything in motion for this season that will ultimately lead to the end that then will bring us into the final season and what I see as the ultimate comeuppance of everything in terms of the series," he continued defending the controversial scene.
At the panel, Sutter once again shared his vision to end the show with a seventh season. "I have an idea of what the final shot is and I hold onto it loosely. If that's what it ends up being, that's what it ends up being," he said. "For me, I need that marker to go towards and then I'm led to the right place."
"Sons of Anarchy" will return Tuesday, September 10 at 10 P.M. ET on FX.
