Gyllenhaal chooses his indie movie 'Nightcrawler' over the Disney musical due to scheduling conflicts, and is now in negotiations to star in the Baltasar Kormakur pic.

It turns out that Jake Gyllenhaal is no longer committed to "Into the Woods". According to The Wrap, the actor bows out of the Disney musical after learning that his indie project "Nightcrawler" has been greenlit. The scheduling conflicts force Gyllenhaal to pass on the Rob Marshall film, in which he was expected to star as Rapunzel's Prince.
In "Nightcrawler", Gyllenhaal will play a freelance L.A. crime reporter. He additionally is set to serve as co-producer alongside Tony Gilroy, Jennifer Fox, Michel Litvak and David Lancaster. The movie is the directorial debut of scribe Dan Gilroy, whose wife Rene Russo is also on board the project to star opposite the "Brokeback Mountain" actor.
Gyllenhaal is also in early talks for another potential starring vehicle. Deadline learns that the Oscar nominee is at the negotiation table alongside Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jason Clarke to discuss the possibility of them all starring in "Everest (2015)" for director Baltasar Kormakur.
Gyllenhaal will next be seen in Denis Villeneuve's two upcoming thriller flicks, including "An Enemy" and "Prisoners". In the latter film which is due out September 20 in the U.S., he stars as a detective who helps Hugh Jackman's character find his missing daughter.
