George Clooney helped Neil Diamond deliver a song to entertain the guests at the 26th Annual Carousel of Hope Ball in Los Angeles. Looking sleek in a suit complete with a bowtie, the guest of honor belted out the chorus of "Sweet Caroline" with the original singer.

The actor was feted for his humanitarian efforts during the event that raised $2.5 million for Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes. He was presented with Brass Ring award by Shirley MacLaine, who said the actor was the "most generous, sweetest, charming human being" she's ever known.

Clooney was initially set to receive the prize from his "Ocean's Thirteen" co-star Carl Reiner, but he fell sick. Shirley assured the crowd that the ailing star was "all right but not coming," while Clooney praised his co-star as "everything I want to be in my life, except 90."

In his speech, Clooney promised to help end President Omar al-Bashir's tight control over Sudan. One of his efforts was financing a satellite that focused on the country. "It's an area that journalists can't get into," he said, "because the president of Sudan Omar al-Bishir is consistently and constantly killing innocent civilians."

The event was hosted by comedian Jay Leno. Other performers included Fernando Varela, "American Idol" star Jessica Sanchez and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. Clooney himself came to the fundraiser with his girlfriend Stacy Keibler.
