Despite his busy schedule in promoting "Prometheus", director Ridley Scott managed to spare some time to offer a brief update on his "Blade Runner" sequel project. Speaking to The Daily Beast, the English filmmaker revealed that the sequel to his 1982 sci-fi movie would likely be a female-centric action film.

"Funny enough, I started my first meetings on the Blade Runner sequel last week," the acclaimed filmmaker opened up when asked to give updates on the sequel. "We have a very good take on it. And we'll definitely be featuring a female protagonist."

In related news, the untitled Blade Runner project is close to find its screenwriter. On Thursday, May 17, Alcon Entertainment confirmed that screenwriter Hampton Fancher is in talks to reunite with Scott for the sequel.

Alcon's co-Chief Executive Officers Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove said in a joint statement, "It is a perfect opportunity to reunite Ridley with Hampton on this new project, one in fact inspired by their own personal collaboration, a classic of cinema if there ever was one."

While announcing the news, Alcon also stated that the project is "intended to be a sequel to the renowned original." Though the exact plot is still kept under very tight wraps, the company revealed that the story "will take place some years after the first film concluded."

Based on a groundbreaking novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K. Dick, the original "Blade Runner" was set in 2019 where the Earth was invaded by androids and replicants. Harrison Ford starred as male lead Rick Deckard who was tasked to track down a group of particularly dangerous replicants. The movie was nominated for two Academy Awards in 1983.
