Howard Stern has weighed in on President Obama's recent revelation on where he stands when it comes to same-sex marriage. During a press conference about his judging duty on "America's Got Talent", the shock jock acknowledged that the U.S. president's declaration is a "good first step, it's a baby step."

Though he credited Obama for expressing support to gay marriage, the 58-year-old told reporters on Thursday, May 10 that he actually wished more from the president. "I wish the president actually had gone further," he admitted. "I wish he had said he was going to back some legislation on the national level."

Given that Obama waited until three and a half years into his presidency to go public with the statement, Stern said it feels like a "political maneuver". The radio personality added, "I would like the president to get behind this and really push it. There's just too many people being bullied, too many people's lives being wrecked. This is something that is long overdue."

Obama declared his support for same-sex marriage in an interview with "Good Morning America". "I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors, when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together," he began telling Robin Roberts.

"When I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that 'don't ask, don't tell' is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage," he continued, "at a certain point I've just concluded that for me, personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married."

While Stern partially applauded Obama for the declaration, Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol Palin criticized the U.S. president for allowing his daughters influence his opinion on gay marriage. She wrote on her blog, "While it's great to listen to your kids' ideas, there's also a time when dads simply need to be dads."
